Proposal to study “conversation films”

  • Alexandre Rafael Garcia Unespar

Abstract

This paper presents the theoretical foundation used to study a group of films that we will identify as “conversation films”, from different times and places, which have common features and which can be seen as part of the same film style. The proposal is related to the approach of art historians, such as Michael Baxandall, and film historians, such as David Bordwell, characterizing what we call the aesthetic film history. The objective is to present a theoretical and methodological framework to study “conversation films”, tracing the history of a film style while defining this new concept, which can also serve as an example for the studies of any group of films from the perspective of artistic creation.
