Abstract

The fierce competition between streaming services and traditional market segments has led to the breakdown of windowing, the pillar on which the cinematographic market was structured after the wide dissemination of the so-called ancillary markets. The article seeks to analyze the extent to which new platforms disrupt the sequencing logic envisaged by windowing, and the impacts generated especially for the production and distribution of independent films. Finally, based on two case studies (MUBI and Embaúba Play), we will seek to examine different platform strategies which favor niche films for the composition of their catalogs.
