Abstract

The respective article explores the idea of symbolic efficacy, initially proposed by Lévi-Strauss, but assimilating subsequent into later contributions, as a way of understanding the sound-sensory discourses of the subjects who form the web of relationships of lofi hip hop, when they associate lofi with states of affectation, such as studying and/or relaxing. Rather than understanding such a relationship as the result of the physical properties of sound, or the result of biological or cognitive-behavioural elements, the aim is to present a socio-cultural understanding in order to understand how lofi hip hop sounds help subjects to relax and/or concentrate on their tasks.
