Abstract

Here I discuss media representations of citizen and social insertion in the
beginning of XX century from the point of view of the speeches circulating on
the telenovela Lado a Lado. Such speeches are considered as illustrative of a
socialization process regarding the communication-consumption dimension
crossed by citizenship in the situations lived by the characters, slaves recently
freed, women conquering new positions, different professional categories being established in a city being modernized. Daily live narratives dealing about transformations of cultural and politic dynamics, reflecting a new individualsubject profile, in a country that begins to be shaped as nation.
