Uma Hipótese prática: a escola como o lugar onde momentos democráticos podem acontecer

Abstract

The debate around the relation between democracy and education is gain importance more and more in theoretical and practical research in education. In Brazil, when defining the principles and objectives of national education, the LDB highlights mainly this relation by indicating the role of individuals’ professional training, the promotion of equal opportunities, and providing necessary tools for the exercise of citizenship. Therefore, the school would play a role in preparing for democracy. This paper seeks to present how Masschelein e Simons propose to think school not as preparation, but as separation (from family, social, financial world, etc.). As a separation, the school would start from an assumption: everyone has the same “capacity for”. That is, they take equality as a practical hypothesis and not as a goal. We will present what this practical hypothesis means. We will use Larrosa’s reflection on this point and indicate how this leads us to think about the conception of to be anyone as presents by Agamben. With a critical-interpretative investigation, the aim is to contribute to the debate around democracy and education.
