Space and materials for drawing instruction and manual work

THE CASE OF THE COLÉGIO ESTADUAL DO PARANÁ (DECADE 1950)

Abstract

This article deals with the organization of space, furniture and materials related to artistic teaching in the context of the subjects of Design and Handicrafts, included in the curriculum of the Colégio Estadual do Paraná (CEP) in the 1950s. To analyze the relationship of these teachings with the materialities associated with them, we use the School Culture perspective through dialogue with Viñao Frago, Guy Vincent, Bernard Lahire and Daniel Thin. As sources, we used institutional documents, photographs, architectural plans and newspaper articles were used. In view of the appreciations made, it was possible to perceive imbrications between materiality, school culture and pedagogical ideas in the context in focus.
