Paulo Freire e o conceito de Cultura: contribuições para compreender a educação

Abstract

This papper presents a fundamental concept for the discussions about education within Paulo Freire 's thinking: culture. In order to do so, we use bibliographical research and, from authors who discuss this concept, we aim to understand the relations established between him and education. Next, we discuss the set of critical-reproductive spectrum thinkers from the Sociology of Education who endeavored to understand the relationship between education and culture, presenting their contributions and limitations. Finally, we point out how the concept of culture assumes epistemological centrality in Paulo Freire's ideas and allows privileged analyzes of the dialogic nature of education, surpassing the previous perspectives, since they are organically linked to the socio-historical context.
