Expanding School Functions: the mists of neoliberalism

Abstract

This article aims to understand the effects of the Acreditar is to invest project and the strategies implemented by it in the lives of young students. We use as support the studies developed by Michel Foucault and Alfredo Veiga-Neto and some tool concepts such as governance, biopower and biopolitics. We conducted semi-structured interviews with school officials and former employees and narration networks with the teenagers who participated in it. Based on the analysis, it was possible to construct two axes for discussion: the first shows that the referred project produces effects in the contemporary school, considerably extending its functions; and the second shows the strategies operated by the project in order to produce a subject-company that develops a desire to constantly invest in itself and its human capital. Thus, the project acts as a biopolitical strategy that manages possible social risks.
